This is not related to the old school cooking show. It is rather an ode to my favorite Grey’s Anatomy female character.
Since I feel that it is not fair for others to include Meredith Grey in this category, let us just agree that she is like a Hall of Famer in terms of being the crowd favorite being that it’s basically her show and the story revolves around her (I mean, how can one dislike her, right?)
So for my Day Two of the Grey’s Anatomy Challenge: Favorite Female Character, my choice is certainly Cristina Yang.
My favorite quote of Cristina Yang to Meredith Grey:
Don’t let what he wants eclipse what you need. He’s very dreamy but he’s not the sun, you are.
Who is she? Cristina Yang is presently a researcher, Chief Medical Officer, and Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Klausman Institute for Medical Research, having been trained at Seattle Grace Hospital, Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, and Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. She was engaged to Preston Burke (who eventually became her real life Santa Klaus, fulfilling all her research dreams) and had a weird relationship and marriage with Owen Hunt (who is such an awful character, uggggh!) She is Meredith Grey’s person (I still cringe over the terminology despite being an avid fan). Cristina is of Korean descent raised in Judaism (her mother converted upon re-marriage) and a native of Beverly Hills, California. She is often referred to as well-off and entitled. Though Jewish, she has stated that she is not religious. Her mother married Cristina’s stepfather, Dr. Saul Rubenstein when Cristina was three. Cristina’s biological father died when she was nine years old in a car accident. She’s watched her father bleed out before help arrived. She attempted to close his chest with her hands and tried her best to stop the bleeding. Cristina felt his last heart beat in her hands which perhaps what triggered her interest in Cardiothoracic Surgery. She graduated from Smith College and earned her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and got her MD from Stanford University School of Medicine where she graduated top of her class. She’s also the best in her batch in Seattle Grace (quoting their attendings at that time). Flashback: SOLO surgery!
Cristina seemed to lack social grace and she is quite insensitive to patients and their families, nevertheless, she is one of the most powerful roles in Grey’s Anatomy. Most of the funny banters were between her and Alex Karev. Apart from Meredith and Alex, she is also close to Callie Torres and Teddy Altman whom she truly liked as her mentor.
