Homeschool: Start of the Third Quarter

My son’s school started the Third Quarter of the SY after the holiday break and I feel like we haven’t done much for the Second Quarter. I am afraid that his schooling got compromised while we were dealing with all our problems back then but thankfully, we’re now in a good place and we can focus again on his learning. He’s gotten lower grades for the Second Quarter however are still high. I feel that his grades are too high because we never had those kinds of grades when we were kids. I mean, we can be in the Honor Roll yet getting 90+ grades is like seeing a unicorn. Now, average kids’ grades (seeing from social media) can get as high as 100%. Incredible, right?!!

Our first lessons in Math is about Roman Numerals. I was teaching my son about it being all too smart showing some flashcards and later realizing that I have forgotten which Hindu-Arabic numerals some letters correspond to. So I had to pause and had a quick glance at the text book and I was like oh, I forgot about D. So later on, we got into the right flow and he enjoyed adding and subtracting letters. It was fun.

Thank GOD for the internet — things are now easier to demonstrate.

Hoping for a better Third Quarter.

    1. Yes. Definitely especially Math, Science and Filipino.

When I taught Fae Algebra and Trigo when she was in HS, it was like muscle memory because I had Math in college… but these primary school math can be tricky sometimes ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

        1. I only loved it because I didnโ€™t have to memorise anything โค๏ธ but I am no expert ๐Ÿ˜ youโ€™re a nurse by profession, I am sure youโ€™ve got some Math prowess as well… my sister complained about Math and Chemistry when she was in college (nursing) ๐Ÿ˜‚

            1. Possibly โ€”- I guess weโ€™re victims of the old system. My husband just pointed out how different my methods are vs his teachers who apparently just made them memorise the corresponding letters for the Roman Numerals / Hindu Arabic & they also recited the multiplication table. I guess weโ€™re all about recitations back then…

I remember being asked to memorise the Dewey Decimal Classification System for a Library Quiz Bee hehe it was harsh.

Wow! Idol… Chemistry was my worst subject. I remember nothing. Itโ€™s a real deal and it amazes me to see people who loved it… I have chemist friends and I was like, what the hell?!
