If you are not familiar with keto, Healthline has written an article called, The Ketogenic Diet: A Detailed Beginner’s Guide to Keto.
I started reviving my program this week. Sunday, in Saudi Arabia is relatively a bad day to start anything sacrificial because it’s like everyone’s Monday. Sunday here is MANIC being that it’s the start of the work week. Like any fasting or diet program, keto also has this thing called “keto flu.” According to Harvard Health, the so-called keto flu is a group of symptoms that may appear two to seven days after starting a ketogenic diet. Headache, foggy brain, fatigue, irritability, nausea, difficulty sleeping, and constipation are just some of the symptoms of this condition, which is not recognized by medicine.
BHB is known to relieve people from keto flu but I told my husband that I won’t be taking BHB because it adds cost to my already pricey program (if curious, click here)… he and my sister both use BHB. Keto is not cheap in Saudi Arabia because almost everything is being imported from the US and since I don’t really have the means to be luxurious, we are making do of what is accessible. The things we have handy are the following:
- Avocado
- Cauliflower
- Broccoli
- Tofu (cheat – not recommended for clean Keto)
- Hotdogs (not recommended for clean Keto)
- Nuggets (not recommended for clean Keto)
- Chicken, thigh part, skin
- Beef, the fatty part
- Ribeye, if you’re being luxurious – Steak House (Saudi Arabia) made everything 50% off since the inception of the newly imposed restrictions
- Cheese
- Ghee
- Butter (not preferred)
- Almond Milk
- Coconut Milk
- Lindt Dark Chocolates
- Stevia
Some stuff are not good for clean keto hence the DIRTY one. We do it sometimes because we deserve a treat.
Last time, I lost 17 kg vs my husband’s 25 kg (because he’s got more to lose). The outcome was perfectly ideal for me. I got to wear things I have envisioned. I felt lighter and I believe my stamina was better. At that time, looking good was basically my one and only motivation because health wise, I’ve got good BP and stable blood sugar levels so I didn’t think it would make much of a difference. BUT IT STILL DID!
At 5’5, my ideal weight should be between 51.2 – 62.6 kg. I am a little over my ideal weight & if my goal is to be within the range, it’s kind of easy but my goal is to achieve the lighter end of the bracket. So I basically have to do what I’ve done the last time I was on the program. Ugggh… I can imagine the whole keto flu ordeal because frankly, it lasts up to 14 days, time to get real Harvard Health!
Aside from feeling lighter and looking camera friendlier, I was also able to breathe better. My asthma attacks decreased and my splenic pain has become way less. I was able to stop the steroids as well. Any pain I’ve had before was down by 2 levels. It was significant for someone who is in chronic pain.

I shared my meal with some colleagues yesterday and today, they felt like sharing theirs. These are the sweetest of sweets. You will faint from afar by its aroma alone. I love these but I am now abstaining from sugar and carbs. So I am taking it home, in case my husband cheats. Which by the way, he already did by ordering Sarouk Chicken (Large Shawarma), flat bread for lunch today. I won’t be making a fuss out of his order if he stops yammering about how I use oil instead of ghee.
