Hi there! This week’s Song Lyric Sunday is about TIME. Our prompt words are Endless, Eternity, Everlasting, Forever, Infinity, Omega, and the song that you choose must contain one of these words in either the title or the lyrics.
My song choice this week is deeply personal. I don’t really know how it started but this triggers a lot of mixed emotions, I really don’t understand why. I love listening to this song as I wallow on those feelings. It’s being an 80’s kid, I think. Haha. I know, it’s corny.
“Forever Young” is a song from Alphaville’s 1984 debut album of the same name. Alphaville is a German synth-pop band whose founding members were lead singer Marian Gold, Bernhard Lloyd, and Frank Mertens. The single Forever Young was a hit in Scandinavia and European German speaking countries. It achieved more success in the United States than in the United Kingdom, but failed to reach the American top 40 despite three separate US single releases. Though not the group’s highest-charting European hit, “Forever Young” became one of the band’s signature songs and has subsequently been covered by numerous artists.
Forever Young – Alphaville
(Songwriters: Bernhard Lloyd / Frank Mertens / Marian Gold)
Let’s dance in style, let’s dance for a while
Heaven can wait we’re only watching the skies
Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?
Let us die young or let us live forever
We don’t have the power, but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The music’s for the sad man
Can you imagine when this race is won?
Turn our golden the faces into the sun
Praising our leaders, we’re getting in tune
The music’s played by the, the madman
Forever young
I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever, and ever
Forever young
I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?
Forever young
Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later they all will be gone
Why don’t they stay young?
It’s so hard to get old without a cause
I don’t want to perish like a fading horse
Youth’s like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever
So many adventures given up today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
Oh let it come true
Forever young
I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever
Forever, and ever?
Forever young
I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever
Forever, and ever?
Forever young
I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever
Forever young
Great choice

This song is quite interesting, but I prefer Rod Stewarts version of the song with the same title…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwG6g5boyF4 … Perhaps it’s the lyrics or the beat….but I can hear it in my mind like yesterday. Blessings and Peace!

Yes! I am familiar with that song… Bob Dylan also has a song with the same title but they’re different songs… they’re all awesome! Thanks for sharing… I enjoyed watching the video 💕

I’ve had a wonderful childhood, but for some reason, I get really really sad whenever I feel nostalgic… I guess I always go back to the fact that my parents used to be so fun and so young,,, I think it’s about that feeling…

Thanks Maggie. I didn’t know about them too, until perhaps in 2007 when I heard the song from one of the shows, I realized I knew the words and searched who sang it… then, I came to know of Alphaville.
