Our Song Lyric Sunday prompt this week is very timely for the Easter celebration. It’s about new life, resurrection!
JIM has given us the Spring Blooming prompts of blossoms, cherry, and flowers. The song that we choose must contain one of these prompt words in either the title or the lyrics.
My choice this week is something my mom would always sing when I was a kid. I remember her singing this song without care whether she’s out of tune or couldn’t hit the notes. I also remember myself giggling a lot and mom would pretend to be pissed.
It’s such a fun memory because now, being a mom to an eight year old, I get to experience the same — he’d also make fun of my singing. He would quietly call his father and the two would laugh at me because like mommy, I also don’t care whether my voice is good or not. All I know is that I have noise cancellation air pods so whatever commentaries they’d say, I won’t hear, haha.
Today
by The New Christy Minstrels
Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine today
I’ll be a dandy and I’ll be a rover
You’ll know who I am by the song that I sing
I’ll feast at your table, I’ll sleep in your clover
Who cares what the morrow shall bring?
Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
I can’t be contented with yesterday’s glory
I can’t live on promises winter to spring (winter to spring)
Today is my moment and now is my story
I’ll laugh and I’ll cry and I’ll sing
Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine today

Janis this is a lovely song and The New Christy Minstrels had some great harmonies with Barry McGuire and Gene Clark.

I have no idea about The New Christy Minstrels apart from the fact that my mom love their songs… I am glad that some of my blogmates know about them ❤ I do learn a lot because of your prompts, Jim…
