Cruel Intentions

I had a slightly hard time finding my entry for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday because I can’t seem to recall any song that falls into the theme that Jim has provided (Brutal, Cruel, Frenzy, Savage, Violent as suggested by Melanie). BUT THEN, I remembered, we do have that one song by Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand…

Tell Him is a song written by Linda Thompson and producers Walter Afanasieff and David Foster. It was recorded as a duet by Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion for their 1997 albums, Higher Ground and Let’s Talk About Love and released as the lead single from these albums on October 7, 1997. The song was a top ten hit in Europe and Australia and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals at the 40th Annual Grammy Awards. Later, “Tell Him” was included on both singers’ greatest hits albums: Streisand’s, The Essential (2002), Duets (2002) and The Ultimate Collection (2010), and Dion’s  The Collector’s Series Volume One (2000),  My Love: Essential Collection(2008) and The Best of Celine Dion and Davit Foster (2012).

For our family, this is one of the most memorable songs ever! This is because back when we were newbies in Saudi Arabia, we didn’t have cable given than we couldn’t afford it (it was super expensive). Our thoughtful classmates who’s got MTV channel would record shows and videos in the good old VHS which we’d play on loop everyday and because of that, we’ve grown so fond of this song!

Tell Him

I’m scared
So afraid to show I care
Will he think me weak
If I tremble when I speak?

Ooh, what if
There’s another one he’s thinking of?
Maybe he’s in love
I’d feel like a fool
Life can be so cruel
I don’t know what to do

I’ve been there
With my heart out in my hand
But what you must understand
You can’t let the chance
To love him pass you by

Tell him
Tell him that the sun and moon
Rise in his eyes
Reach out to him

And whisper
Tender words so soft and sweet
I’ll hold him close to feel his heart beat
Love will be the gift you give yourself

Touch him (ooh)
With the gentleness you feel inside (I feel it)
Your love can’t be denied
The truth will set you free
You’ll have what’s meant to be
All in time you’ll see
Ooh, I love him (then show him)
Of that much I can be sure (hold him close to you)
I don’t think I could endure
If I let him walk away
When I have so much to say

Tell him
Tell him that the sun and moon
Rise in his eyes
Reach out to him

And whisper
Tender words so soft and sweet
Hold him close to feel his heart beat
Love will be the gift you give yourself

Love is light that surely glows
In the hearts of those who know
It’s a steady flame that grows
Feed the fire with all the passion you can show
Tonight love will assume its place
This memory time cannot erase
Your faith will lead love where it has to go

Tell him
Tell him that the sun and moon
Rise in his eyes
Reach out to him

And whisper
Whisper words so soft and sweet
Hold him close to feel his heart beat
Love will be the gift you give yourself, ooh

Never let him go

    1. It used to be… we felt how sudden the changes have been because there’s hefty fees being levied in almost every governmental transaction especially for expats— and the full tank of gas used to cost us 40 riyals and now, it’s 120 riyals… this all happened in 2016 above, oh the levies are painful… because the comparison was zero to 1500 sar per head and everything increases by 100 riyals yearly til it reaches the max but the payscale did not change at all. Nevertheless, some people who are blessed to have nicer jobs get to stay unfortunately, not all can afford it that’s why most Filipinos hustle illegally…
